Conversation Partner: Keun Hwa
Date and Time: September 1st, 2015 2:30-3:30
For the first session, we got to know each other very well. Keun Hwa told me about her life in South Korea and we talked about similarities and differences between South Korea and the United States. She use to be a teacher in a middle school and I was fascinated with listening to the cultural differences in the education systems. I told her that I have a roommate from South Korea, so I know a bit about the culture. I told her that I tried Kimchi before, but the thought the taste was different than anything I was use to. I found out that she associates herself as "Cuna" when she speaks to American students. I told her that people have difficulty pronouncing my name too, so I usually introduce myself as Nicole (my middle name). We went to Starbucks in Stroizer and she told me that it was her first time walking around campus. I was excited to show her Landis Green and where the library was located. She told me about her son and that when they first came to America, he had a hard time adjusting here and in school, but after three months, he had become more acclimated to the society. They went to the movies that weekend to watch a Marvel film that her son loved. I learned a lot about her family life and her culture. She seems like a very sweet person and I like getting to know her.
