Location: Book-a-MillionCultural and/or linguistic topics you and Neila learned: We talked about education systems of France, the U.S. and Korea. Her father is a math teacher of a high school for over 30 years so she knows it well. I thought that salaries of teachers of the U.S. were not good, but her father’s are good, compared with Koreans’ with similar amounts of years of teaching. In addition, I came to know that teachers of the U.S. get paid during vacations.
And then we talked about school lunch. She said that lunch time of the U.S. is so short that students have to hurry up and eat, and the prices of lunch are not inexpensive. On the other hand, in France students have one hour lunch time and free and healthy meals from school. Korean school lunches are similar to French ones.
She explained about dual enrollment which means
high school students can take classes at both their high school and a near
college. Students can get credits before
graduation of high school for free.
She taught me how to use Roman number which she had
learned when she was in France. This is how. If there is Ⅰ on the left side of Ⅴ, I should subtract it from Ⅴ. On the other hand, if there is Ⅰ on the right side of Ⅴ, I should add it to Ⅴ. Her explanation was
easy and clear. She said that she wanted
to be a teacher, and I think that she will be a thoughtful teacher.
