Tutee: Dojun
Date/Time: 9/14/15 11:00 Am-12:00 PM
During this tutoring session, we started by focusing on his writing. I gave him a writing prompt about what he would like to do or accomplish in the next year. His sentences were very simple but generally used correct grammar. Sometimes he struggled with subject verb agreement and had awkward phrasing. Overall, I expected some of these mistakes. Most students at his level or even above make the same mistakes. In future sessions, I think I will focus more on the structure of the paragraph. After I read over the assignment, I told him what was good about the paragraph. Then, I told him what was incorrect and why it was incorrect. After we finished this exercise, we went on to a reading passage that was a short story. The language was simple but the plot could be confusing. Overall, he did very well on this. He only had trouble with difficult vocabulary words which aren't commonly used in every day language. His reading comprehension and ability to explain the story were excellent. After we went over the obscure vocabulary, we had some speaking practice about what we would be doing over the next few weeks. I think this is a good way to rap up a session, since it gives him practice talking and thinking about what he is doing in English.
