GarretCP#2

Monday, September 14th, Khyrsi (the young lady who was in my CP#1 post) and I met with a friend at the Applebee's on Appalachia Parkway. We hung out for about 2 hours and shared a few appetizers. Like I said before, Khyrsi has been in the U.S. for about a month now, and being as how she is from Venezuela, the culture is much different here. I am absolutely impressed with her receptive and productive vocabularies, she is very proficient - however, she struggles a bit with pronunciation and elevated diction. Considering that her previous profession was that of a lawyer, Khyrsi enjoys discussing politics a lot. My friend, the one we met at Applebee's, also enjoys discussing politics, and although we spent most of the dinner listening to his perspective on the 2016 presidential candidates, we also discussed his latest trip out of the country wherein he visited Russia on a business trip. My friend, whose name is Fred, is a very successful mechanical engineer and filmmaker, and he has great insight on many different topics. I felt like him and Khyrsi would get along well and that is mostly why I invited her. He expressed that he does not buy into Bernie Sanders plan to relieve the current student debt predicament that is plaguing many American students, he expressed many other opinions about his lack of faith in Bernie Sanders. Towards the end of the conversation Khyris showed me a video of people in Venezuela rioting and trying to rob a food truck, she expressed that the current social situation in Venezuela is very terrible and that she is appreciative to be in the United States.
