Matthew TS #5

Date: 9/11/15 5:00-6:00 PM
Tutee: Matthew Hong
From what I learned last session, I decided to bring another article at his grade level. In  similar fashion to the previous week, he read the article paragraph-by-paragraph. We discussed the main idea after each paragraph and then discussed the passage as a whole. He then answered some comprehension and vocabulary questions based on the passage. This week, he did much better. He also brought a long a book, that he identified as "not his reading level." He said he looked at it before, so I used this as an opportunity to work on his writing. Most of his errors are common to other students that I have interacted with. A few article errors, some awkward word usage, and subject-verb agreement. I think the subject-verb agreement issues were the biggest problem for him this week, so next week I will bring along the grammar lesson plan worksheet on that subject that I produced earlier. I think it will help him a lot in understanding how to match subjects and verbs. His speaking ability seems to be better than his writing or reading, which may be the result of growing up in America.
