Topic/Skill: The present perfect tense/
grammar
Teacher Presentation: Mr. Ryan showed students
first-thing-question on the board. The
first-thing-question is his own format for checking what students have learned
last class. He walked around the classroom
whenever he gave students sentence-making jobs using the target grammar. During student’s work, he handed out the
grammar error logs of last class.
Classroom Management: There were 3 female
and 5 male students. They did not talk with each other so they seemed to keep
distance from each other.
Materials: Textbook(CIES group 2 grammar book)
Student Participation: They wrote several
sentences after the teacher asked for them. They did not speak anything. A
student asked his questions several times, though.
Feedback Provided: he corrected students’
errors with a green pen. He listened to
students’ questions seriously and tried to answer until he became to understand
when he had to use the present perfect tense.
Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: One of the
most interesting things was that Mr. Ryan used true or false questions as a way
to give some information about the midterm. I thought that it was really killing
two bird with one stone. Overall Mr.
Ryan’s grammar class was well-organized.
He used frequent verbs on the first-thing-question. Students got much feedback about their
sentences from him.
