Conversation Partner: Luna
Date: September 16, 2015

I met Luna during a classroom observation.  It was a beginners class for speaking and I was sitting right behind her.  When the instructor called on her, I noticed her accent in English right away.  I had a feeling that she was Colombian, because my family is from there and I am very familiar with that accent.  After class, I approached her and asked her if we can meet up and talk.  Later, I saw her again and I asked her about her background.  She told me that she was from Bogota, Colombia and that she is very new to this country.  I told her that I am from Medellin and she was was so happy to hear that.  She has a very vibrant and colorful personality and she was very enthusiastic to meet another Colombian.  She told me that she was having a little bit of a hard time learning English and adjusting here.  I told her that I have a cousin in Colombia that learned English by watching classic English films with the English subtitles and listened to popular English music.  He learned all the lyrics to almost all of the old-school Beatles and The Rolling Stones songs.  I told her that she should do the same, that way, she can start getting use to listening the English accent and picking up words.  She said that she would try it out on YouTube and let me know how it goes.  She also introduced me to two of her friends who were also from Colombia.  They seemed really nice and I told them that if they need anything, to let me know and I'll help them out with as much as I can.
