Kelly Michael - TS#4

This was my second session with Hamoud, and his cousin Hamoud. I really appreciate these guys because they are very easy to schedule, and I can group tutor them together very easy because they are roommates. I went over to their apartment with a short dialog I thought would help them with speaking. We started talking about confidence in speaking, and why its important for them to speak with fluidity even if the words weren't grammatically correct. I felt both of them wanting to say more, but being a bit too reserved to make an effort. Instead of speaking of academic endeavors, I decided to see what kind of social experience they are having in Tallahassee. This would hopefully get them to talk more I surmised because everyone would rather talk about themselves. My assumption was correct and soon they both were answering my questions and responding to my thoughts despite the grammar mistakes. This was a good experience to illustrate why its important to make material personable and to students so you may get a better response. Next session I am bringing some DVD's and we are going to watch some scenes with difficult and complex language, and hopefully they will be able to understand the idea by the context clues or questions I will ask them.
