Andrea TS #6

This was my first session with Luna, a 2B student from Bogotá, Colombia. I was looking forward to meeting her because I have family in Bogotá and I had not yet met a CIES student with a Latino background like me. She had let me know before the session that she needed to practice the present perfect tense, so I made sure to prepare for that. It was difficult not speaking Spanish with her, and sometimes it would slip out without trying. I think that was the only negative aspect of our session. She's a mature, enthusiastic learner. The most fun portion of our lesson was something called "Two Truths and a Lie." It's an exercise that forced Luna to use the present perfect tense, but in a more interesting way. We would take turns telling each other two truths and a lie about our lives, and the other person would have to guess which of the three was the lie. I made sure that all of the truths and lies used the format "I have/have never/have not" and we also added in a lot of irregular verbs for practice. The exercise makes for some funny lies and very interesting truths; we learned a lot about each other. We also did some speaking practice with prompts. At first I was trying to only listen and write down whatever errors she had but eventually I realized it was better to record her so that we could go over it in small pieces together.
