Conversation Partner: Do-jun Kim
Date/Time: Tuesday 1 September 2015, 9:30-10:30 am
Do-jun was happy to announce that there has been improvement
in his boss’s condition. He is conscious and doing well. I misunderstood Do-jun
slightly the last time we talked. The man in the hospital is not his direct
superior but rather I upper level executive that he does not interact with
according to the typical duties for his job. Do-jun did mention that he had
seen him around the office a few times before the accident. As such, Do-jun
clearly has not visited him in the hospital. He is relying on reports form
other workers to keep up with the ongoing developments. I suspect that by the
next time we talk the executive will be well on his way to a full recovery.
Since this Thursday is our first tutoring session I made sure to check in with
Do-jun about what he was hoping to get out of the session. I asked if he had
any specific English needs he wanted to address. He mentioned vocabulary and
grammar. Do-jun usually uses English in an office or business setting so I plan
to use office vocabulary and address a few higher level grammar concepts. It is
lucky that I am also Do-jun’s conversation partner because it has allowed me to
observe his strengths and weaknesses on a regular basis. I am excited for our
lesson on Thursday! I hope it doesn’t inhibit our later conversation sessions.
