Today, I met with six year old Nayun. After a rough session last time, I decided to try a few things different. Instead of immediately sitting down and getting to work on some workbook exercises she had brought me, we took a stroll through the children's section to find a book. I asked her a few basic questions, and she responded well. I wanted her to get comfortable speaking to me in a casual sense before we went on to the lesson. It happened to be her birthday so I was able to ask her questions about that to keep her engaged. We next worked on the exercises she brought which included working on homonyms, which I had thought were bit difficult. Nayum zipped through and spelled each correctly. This was a very refreshing session.
