Talking to Keunhwa is always fun and interesting. I love how she teaches me so much about her country and I always learn something new every time we talk. On this day, we were talking about more controversial topics. I asked her what she thought about teaching sex education in public schools. As for me, I think it is very important and it can prevent a lot of teen pregnancies and STI's. But that is here in the United States (where only 28 states make it mandatory to teach sexual education). So, I was curious to see this through her perspective. She told me stories about South Korea and that she thinks it is important. Understanding more of her culture has been giving more insight on a lot of public policies and cultural norms in South Korea. I think it is fascinating to hear her speak about her perspective, giving that she was an educator in the public school system over there. I think she is a very strong person and a good role model. She encourages me to be more outspoken in class and to voice my opinion more. I am trying to take her advice and slowly be more social in the classroom setting.
