On Friday I finally had the chance to meet up with Keunhwa at Leon Collins library. Since it was our first meeting, I didn't really have much planned so I decided that I needed to see what she needed to work on. Keunhwa informed me that she really wanted to practice her speaking. She seems to have a good grasp on English, but she wants to work on perfecting her accent. We spent the hour getting to know each other. We talked about South Korea and our different experiences there. Since Keunhwa taught in South Korea, I decided to ask her for some advice when it comes to teaching. She gave some tips for teaching as well as general cultural differences. Throughout our conversation there were points where I helped Keunhwa learn some new English words too. For our next session we agreed that we would read magazine articles and work on discussing them. This will help Keunhwa learn more about American culture while she works on speaking as well.
