Conversation Partner: Do-jun Kim

This
morning I finally had a good enough internet connection to Skype Do-jun from my
apartment. This was a relief because I was exhausted from my first day of
class. The discussion turned toward the serious side of international culture.
Over last weekend tensions arose between North and South Korea concerning a
radio broadcast and a landmine explosion. Do-jun gave me a play by play of
interstate interaction as well as a few of his own opinions on what happened.
He thinks a big reason the issue did not escalate to a conflict is because the
United States happened to be running joint exercises with the South Korean
military. We eventually turned the conversation back toward less serious
things. I had a hard time trying to explain what the Prohibition was to Do-jun
because not only did it not reach South Korea, the term is word outside of
its historical context. I used historical photos to explain what I meant.
