Justin TS#10
On 10/16 I met with Astin. It was hard to get started this week with him because I ran into trouble getting to his house. Astin didn't have school today so we met at the library. Once again we began our day by practicing his writing skills. Since he is only 5 I don't expect his writing to be very good. I want to help him understand how letters are shaped and which ones are which. He already does well but there are times where he hesitates or starts the wrong letter. I try not to stress him too hard because I know it isn't his favorite thing to do. We tend to focus on reading when we are together. Today we read some comics. He showed me that in the back of some of his favorite magazines there are comics that he likes. We read through a couple of this which was fun because he enjoyed the stories. Then we had the librarian help us find some animal books. She showed us an area that I didn't know about and it was a gold mine. There were books on any animal you could think of, sharks, crocodiles, flamingos, falcons, peacocks, snakes. For the next time I see Astin I'm going to try and bring some of these books to his house since I know that he really enjoys them. I might also look into finding some comics that he might like. Calvin and Hobbes is a classic and it will give him a piece of American culture to have.
