Justin TS#7
On Tuesday 10/06 I met once again with Yuma. He was a little bit tired today since he is taking a lot of exams this week. Today we worked on his reading comprehension and his use of articles. I had 2 sets of the lyrics to 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and I had Yuma read one stanza and then read the version I had which had certain words crossed out. I thought this activity would help Yuma trying to remember exactly what he had read just before. He also had the opportunity to use context of the song and possibly the rhyming scheme of the song. Yuma did well in this exercise even though some of the words were new. If he was struggling with one word I would try and describe it to him and that would always work. Once we got to the end I asked him about the main idea of the song and if he knew the song prior to reading it. Once I told him about how the person singing is trying to go anywhere for the person they love he understood. I also started to sing it and then he realized what it was and he knew the song. Then we watched the video just to hear it. After this he told me that he wants to work on articles and prepositions. I decided to pull up a short fill in the blank exercise. We worked on it together to find the correct answers. Sometimes he was frustrated about not fully understanding when to use an article and when not to. We both got a couple wrong but then fixed our mistakes. For next session I'll come with a complete plan to work on these issues.
