Justin CP#3

On Thursday I met Silvia. She is a Spaniard from Madrid. I had met her once before at CIES but I saw her again at a party. We had a long conversation about Spain as a whole. Since I studied there she wanted to know all about my experience. I told her how much I loved the frame of mind that Spaniards have and that the culture is really amazing. We spoke a lot about football too since that is one of my favorite things about Spain. This is when the two of us were at each others throats. She is a Madrid fan and I am a Barcelona fan. We had an extensive conversation on why we like and dislike each team. Then we also spoke about how Catalunya wants to secede form Spain. She seemed very nervous about it because recently the leading political group in Catalunya gained over 50% in favor of breaking away from Spain. I don't think that it would be a good idea for them to break away because many institutions within Europe aren't prepared to accept them. The European Union for example has already stated that they will not be welcome to join. It was interesting to get someones opinion who is from there and will actually feel the repercussions if it happens. I also spoke to her about teaching in Spain. Since I did my project on it I was interested in a students view. I'll probably see her again at CIES and we can continue to talk.
