Justin CP#4
On Thursday 10/08 I had a good conversation with Tai Yun. I've met him a couple times at CIES and I even observed 2 of his classes. He is a journalist and speaks very good English. He is from South Korea so mostly spoke about the culture there. We spoke about equality in the work place since we sort of spoke about that in class the other day. He told me a story about how there use to be this law where only men were allowed to smoke cigarettes in a specific area. Women were not allowed to join. He told me about this women who thought that this was an outrageous law and stood up for herself. She apparently would continue to smoke with the men until they had to let her stay. She would constantly argue with the local men until she was treated fairly. It was an interesting story. He also spoke about maternity leave. He told me that normally women don't receive a paid leave of absence. We thought that this was wrong and that women should still be able to receive a salary when they leave. Tai Yun was an interesting guy and I had a good time getting to know him and hearing about the topics he has covered in journalism.
