Hunter TS#13
On October 1, I met with Raiyaan and worked on summarizing. Since our last tutoring session together, he had abandoned "To Kill a Mockingbird," which he was reading for pleasure, due to the book becoming to difficult to understand and thus infringing on his enjoyment of the story. He instead now had a much easier book, an illustrated anthology of short stories. I briefly scanned through the book and realized that this book was indeed much more level appropriate. I asked him to tell me about the different stories he had read. He was very excited and enthusiastic. He was able to tell me about the stories in great detail and with excellent delivery. His intonation, pronunciation, accuracy, and fluency were all very much on point. I would ask several follow up questions in regards to the details he was telling me. I would also have him find and point out certain scenes, thus working on his scanning skills. He had little difficulty with this, despite the book being a little larger. This was reassuring to me, and I felt more as if I were having a regular discussion about literature with a close friend than conducting a tutoring session.
