GarretCO#1
Last Wednesday, September 30th, I observed Jasmine's listening class. The first thing that I noticed when observing Jasmine's class was how few people completed the homework assignment. The homework assignment was a schema building exercise for the listening activity that was to be done in class that day. Of all the students in the class only 2 or 3 people raised their hands when Jasmine asked the class who did the homework. This being the case, Jasmine gave the class 7 minutes to work on completing the assignment. After the 7 minute period, she had everyone stop and pay attention to her as she explained the assignment and answered the questions on the board. While doing the assignment Jasmine did a very good job at engaging with the students. I am quite sure that she called on just about everyone in the class for an answer. After doing the assignment, she had the class listen to a short news clip that talked about "The 40 a day Smoking Baby in Indonesia." The homework/schema building activity showed to be quite useful for the discussion that was had after listening to the news clip.
