KellyMichael - CO#2
I observed (and participated in when asked) Vicky's reading class. We read four perspectives on the topic of charity and then we were asked to answer a series of questions about the passages. The group discussion was very interesting for me. One of the passages mentioned taxes as a discouragement to charity, and conceptually was difficult for my group to grasp. They understood once I explained what purpose taxes served in our country. There were certain moral judgment calls inherently involved in this conversation. I found this thought provoking for the students, yet as a fledging teacher something I might try to avoid. Vicky seemed to know her class very well and was comfortable teaching such a complex subject. She called on individuals by name, and made sure everyone had a chance to answer question. Preparation and agenda were both executed very well, and time management keep the class moving and interesting without any pauses. These are both things I think I could work on that will build my confidence in other areas.
