GarretCP#4

Thursday, October 1st

I met with Jorge today after class today at the Starbucks across the street from CIES. I have yet to be able to find time to meet him out for a beer - that was the first thing he addressed. As I stood in line for a coffee, Jorge explained to me that he dislikes Starbucks coffee and that most coffee in the US is not very good. I agreed with Jorge and explained to him that I do not really like most coffee places here either (DUnkin Donuts, Starbucks, ETC.) but often times I order espresso from these places. In fact, that is usually the only thing I order from these places, unless I am starving and need to get something small to eat. He laughed and replied, "good." As we sat down he continued with our conversation about coffee, he told me that even the espresso here is very different and usually of lesser quality than that of his native Mexico. He explained that many things in the US are "watered-down" versions of the real thing. For instance, he explained that Spanish speaking music in America is different. We talked mostly about music for the rest of the conversations.
