I met with Luna today for the second time, this session began with gusto as we had watched in Spanish a comedian from Colombia. The objective was then for her to relate to me what the joke was in English. Through this activity we were able to discover and correct her beautiful mistakes, namely, her consistent mistakes in using the present simple tense where the simple past was necessary. After some time working on this we moved on to other grammatical concepts that she had been having some trouble with in her studies. We reviewed pronouns which had been causing her some issues. I believe that because Spanish has more verb forms than English many sentences do not require a subject, hence many sentences Luna had constructed lacked the pronoun. Additionally, I introduced her to conditional clauses in the subjunctive mood, i.e., 'if' clauses. The concept came fairly easily to her as it was used to explain the joke that we had commenced the lesson with. I hope that for our next lesson we may be able to achieve the same level of success in covering so many different concepts.
