Ellen Boener CO#2

Instructor: Vicky Golen
Date/Time:  Wednesday 22 July 2015, 11:00-11:50pm

I arrived at the class a few minutes early and introduced myself to Vicky, the instructor. She told me they were covering summary and paraphrasing that day and gave me a work sheet to follow along with. It is funny how much we take reading skills for granted in our native tongue. The idea of teaching someone summary seems ridiculous because you would thing that it is a concept in most languages. Why do we need to teach it just because the language is different? But then I remembered that I had to do summary exercises in nearly all of my high school Spanish classes. Language breaks down when you have to teach it. The more I hear people teach English the more the it dissolves. Languages are just equations for meaning. I got to work more closely with the students during this class because I was pared with the student next to me for a few of the reading exercises. I was interesting to watch him piece through the material.
