Aviv CO#1

Monday, August 31st at 11am, I completed my first classroom observation on a reading class. The teacher was absent so they had a substitute, Mrs. Debbie. When she entered the classroom she introduced herself and then let the class know that I was observing. I introduced myself to the class and the students introduced themselves to the substitute teacher as well as to me. She wrote the lesson for the day on the board, reading composition and pronunciation. Mrs.Debbie used the classroom as her material because they had letters on the wall and several learning pictures, demonstrating rules on pronouncing vowels and consonants. Also using different hand gestures for different pronunciation skills. Many examples were given, then she split the class into groups for them to make examples on their own and then had them write a few of their examples on the board. She gave feedback and created a game out of the lesson, having students participate when others wrote examples on the board. The last 10 minutes everyone read sentences from a worksheet out loud. The class was for beginner level English and I learned that visual teaching with pictures and movements is helpful for lower level students.
