Frankie TS #2

I had the opportunity to tutor 4th grader P.J. earlier today, which was truly much more of a learning experience for myself than it seemed for him. Today's session went differently than my observation with Ellen, as today it seemed that P.J. wasn't really feeling up for it. I had planned today to go over Dr. Seuss's "Sneetches" as a liaison into his reading book's section on Abraham Lincoln and the emancipation proclamation. I had to recognize that much of my questioning and thought process was perhaps a bit too sophisticated for such an age group and needed to reevaluated. We ended up briefly reviewing the grammar topic of subjects and predicates from a test he had taken before in school. He demonstrated a command of the topic with apparent facility. However, when it came time for reading aloud from the book he wasn't too thrilled. I suspect he was tired, otherwise, I fear I might've failed him a tutor this particular session. Otherwise, I am hoping for a more engaging and successful meeting next week. Maybe I've chosen a topic that's a little boring from his reading book.
