I met Neila in front of the CIES building on Monday, August 31. It was hot and muggy outside, so we went inside the building. Neila came across the teacher who was the instructor of the class she observed in the morning. She asked him where we could have a conversation and he recommended the backyard. The place was quiet and perfect, except for that it was outside. First we talked about our life experiences. I was surprised by that she lived in France for 5 years when she was a teenager. In addition, she had a Korean best friend when she was an elementary school student. Neila remembered her name and the food that she had eaten at her friend’s house. Then she asked me what the most different things were between the U.S. and Korea. It was interesting to me because Tallahassee was not the same as what I had expected before I came here. I remember I used this phrase, which is that before I came here, a lot during this conversation. I thought that she has diverse experiences in language and open minds to people.
