HunterTS#3

September 3, I held a group tutoring session with Marco and Rasmene during which we worked on  reading.  I had them both write down new words they had come across in the books they were each reading the night before and then asked them to guess the meaning of these words from the context given in the books.  One word, "imbed," was giving Rasmene particular difficulty.  I used the word in several new sentences and he was able to provide me with a rough estimate of it's definition: something which is stuck within something else.  I then had him come up with new sentences for me using "imbed" until he began to feel comfortable with his understanding of the word.  We repeated this exercise for each of their new words and I asked them to continue to do this for next time, writing all of the new words they come across down in a notebook with the sentence in which they were found.   Each time they hear the word again in a new sentence, write the new sentence down.  And when they feel they have enough context to determine what the word means, write down the definition.
