Frankie TS #11

Yesterday, on the last day of September, I had my third session with Inhyeong. She was excited to see what I had prepared for this particular lesson, so we commenced with a brief review of our last session's information. We ended up retiring to what we first covered in the initial session, that is, the difference between figurative and literal ways of speaking. This was a great liaison into formal and informal concepts. We began with what the word formal means, and how it can be broken down in a more simple concept. I introduced to her the notion of abstract and concrete. After not too much discussion she understood the ideas and could explain them back to me. Having gone through what abstract and concrete mean she could easily grasp the difference between formal and informal types of things. This laid the foundation for a more thorough understanding of what figurative and literal meanings are. I think she really enjoyed the similarity between figure and form, and how both denote some sort of mental image that is an abstract concept. This was probably my most successful lesson to date as I believe the mode in which we engaged the words and the deduction are skills that she may use throughout her life of learning.
