Tutee: PJ Chang
Date/Time: Saturday 26 September 2015, 10:30-11:30 am
I felt very informed and prepared for this tutoring session.
I had met with PJ’s teacher, Ms. Keaton, and she told me more about the learning
process in her classroom. She specifically told about the best way to use the
language arts books that she had provided Professor Kim with previously in the
year. The correct method for using the books together involves pairing the
chapters and stories according to the vocabulary and the learning objectives.
She also told me about what the next upcoming test would be covering in her
class. They specific skills they would be working on were context clues and
cause and effect. So for the tutoring session with PJ this Saturday I selected a
reading section that would utilize these skills.
Each section is accompanied by vocabulary. Usually I would
go over the vocabulary first but for this lesson instead of going through the
new words first, we jumped ahead to the story and used context clues to figure
out which each of the words meant. After using this tactic to understand
context clues I went over cause and effect. We went back over the story and
looked for examples of cause and effect. I hope PJ now has a good foundation to
understand these skills when Ms. Keaton covers it in class.
